05/07/2026
STOCKTON, Calif. – The City of Stockton has appointed Tina McCarty as its new Director of Housing and Homelessness Initiatives, effective immediately. McCarty steps into the role after serving as the City's Director of Economic Development, bringing more than a decade of leadership experience with the City of Stockton to one of the community's most pressing priorities.
The appointment comes as the Stockton City Council has placed housing and homelessness at the center of its 2026 priorities. The Director of Housing and Homelessness Initiatives is a position originally established by City Council in 2007 and updated in March 2026 to reflect the department's current scope and the Council's expanded focus on these issues.
In her new role, McCarty will serve as the City's primary contact on homelessness with external systems of care, including health care, criminal justice, and affordable housing providers, and will oversee the City's use of federal and state grants for affordable housing and homelessness initiatives.
"Tina has a proven track record of leadership and results at the City of Stockton," said Johnny Ford, City Manager. "She brings the experience, the relationships, and the energy this work demands. I'm glad to have her stepping into this role."
