01/29/2026
On Wednesday, January 28, 2026 Members of the Central Valley Association of REALTORS® (CVAR), the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce, and past Stocktonians of the Year surprised John Vera with the news he had been selected as the 2025 Stocktonian of the Year, honoring his nearly four decades of philanthropic leadership, civic engagement, and quiet dedication to strengthening the Stockton community. John will join the ranks as the 72nd Stocktonian of the Year.
Each year, CVAR and the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce recognize an individual whose volunteerism and service have made a lasting and positive impact on the City of Stockton. The Stocktonian of the Year Award honors those whose contributions are rendered outside of their paid professions and who exemplify a deep commitment to community without seeking recognition. John Vera will join the distinguished ranks of Stocktonians whose service reflects these ideals.
John Vera’s influence in Stockton is both longstanding and far-reaching. Active in the community for nearly 40 years, John has consistently invested his time, leadership, and resources into organizations that serve children, families, education, the arts, and the preservation of Stockton’s cultural and historical institutions. Within Stockton’s philanthropic community, John is widely known as someone who shows up whether as a donor, volunteer, board member, organizer, or behind-the-scenes supporter always focused on making organizations stronger from within.
John has been a foundational supporter of the Mary Graham Children’s Foundation, a commitment that dates back decades and was most recently recognized during the Foundation’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, where he was honored as one of its founding supporters. His passion for protecting and empowering vulnerable children has also extended to long-term support of the Children’s Home of Stockton and other youth-focused organizations.
A steadfast advocate for arts and culture, John and his wife, Francesca, are Honorary Chairpersons of the Stockton Symphony’s Centennial Celebration. As Patrons of the Symphony, their generosity has helped raise more than $50,000 to support orchestral music in Stockton, ensuring access to the arts for generations to come. Their support of cultural institutions also includes the Haggin Museum, the San Joaquin County Historical Museum, and community-based arts and athletic programs.
John’s philanthropic leadership has been recognized throughout the region. In 2023, John and Francesca were nominated by Michael Duffy’s 54 Fund as Outstanding Philanthropists of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), San Joaquin Chapter. In 2025, John was honored by El Concilio as Amigo of the Year for his longstanding support of initiatives that uplift Latino families throughout Stockton.
Education and opportunity remain central to John’s vision for a stronger community. Through the San Joaquin Community Foundation, John and Francesca provide a named scholarship for local high school graduates, helping remove financial barriers to higher education. He has also supported San Joaquin Delta College’s Culinary Program, reflecting his belief in workforce development and practical pathways to success.
Beyond individual accomplishments, what distinguishes John Vera most is his humility. Despite decades of service and significant community impact, he has never sought attention or recognition. He gives quietly, leads thoughtfully, and remains deeply focused on the good his support can bring to others. His belief in Stockton’s potential and his willingness to invest in that belief, has left a lasting mark on the city, strengthening institutions, expanding opportunity, and improving countless lives throughout the community.
