Calaveras River Watershed Resilience Plan
04/15/2025

Stockton East Water District and Calaveras County Water District are developing a new Watershed Resilience Plan for the Calaveras River Watershed. The vision of the plan is to enhance water resource resiliency for communities, economies, and ecosystems throughout the Calaveras Watershed through regional collaboration and integrated watershed management.
The effort is funded by California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and is one of only five watersheds in California to receive the grant award. The Watershed Resilience Program was designed to begin planning for climate resilience at the watershed scale.
The Watershed Network is made up of water and wastewater utilities, local governments, Tribes, and non-profit organizations throughout the Calaveras River Watershed. The Watershed Network will provide feedback and guidance throughout the plan development process. In addition to the Watershed Network, the Project Team invites members of the public to participate.
Thus far, the Project Team shared the Plan vision, goals, and objectives with the Watershed Network. The Project Team is now working to incorporate comments from the Watershed Network into components of the plan. The Project Team will then use an analytical framework that includes metrics to evaluate climate risk and vulnerability throughout the watershed. A range of future possible climate change scenarios will be assessed, building on work completed by DWR through their Watershed Studies program. The Watershed Network will be open to all who wish to constructively share their thoughts and ideas about the Calaveras River Watershed throughout Plan development.
