Learn About Fireworks Safety at City Community Centers

The Stockton Fire Department and Stockton Police Department will host community fireworks safety demonstrations at City of Stockton Community Centers to provide information and education about the proper handling and disposal of Safe and Sane Fireworks; the dangers of illegal fireworks; how to report illegal fireworks in your neighborhood; and an overview of the City of Stockton fireworks ordinance. All demonstrations will begin at 6:30 p.m.:

  • Tuesday, June 25 – Arnold Rue Community Center, 5758 Lorraine Ave.
  • Wednesday, June 26 – Seifert Community Center, 128 W. Benjamin Holt Dr.
  • Thursday, June 27 – Stribley Community Center, 1760 E. Sonora St.
  • Friday, June 28 ­– Van Buskirk Community Center, 734 Houston Ave.

All members of the community are invited to bring family, friends, and neighbors to any of these sessions. Only fireworks with the State Fire Marshal Safe and Sane Seal are permitted in the City of Stockton. Safe and Sane fireworks are a category of fireworks that do not shoot up into the air or leave the ground.

Sale of Safe and Sane Fireworks is restricted to vendors permitted by the City and may only be used: June 28, from noon – 11:00 p.m.; and June 29 – July 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. All other fireworks and fireworks used outside of these dates and times are illegal. Larger fireworks displays are only allowable with a special permit obtained by the Stockton Fire Department.

Effective June 14, 2022, City of Stockton Fireworks Ordinance Update

The City of Stockton fireworks ordinance includes administrative penalties for fireworks violations. Penalties of $1,000 for a first violation, $2,000 for a second violation, and $3,000 for additional violations may apply. Ordinance changes also include “Social Host Liability,” which may include fines and/or cost recovery for the cost of public safety response to the property and may apply to the person in charge of the property, including, but not limited to an owner, tenant, landlord, or property manage. Violations can include activities that occur in a common area or public right-of-way adjacent the property where illegal fireworks or use of fireworks outside of established dates and hours occur.
