Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce Receives Prestigious Anti-Crime Award for STAART Program
06/28 /2024

The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce is honored to announce that our newest program, Stockton Takes Action Against Retail Theft (STAART), has been recognized with an anti-crime award from Californians Against Retail and Residential Theft (CARRT). This accolade, presented to the Chamber, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, and District Attorney Ron Freitas, highlights our collective dedication to reducing crime and supporting local businesses.
"Retail theft continues to plague local businesses, creating frustration among our residents and business owners," said San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors Chairman Miguel Villapudua. "The Board is committed to helping local businesses and is proud to help fund this effort through the Greater Stockton Chamber. Partnerships like these with the District Attorney’s office and the Chamber show that our community is united to stand against and stop retail theft in our County."
Matt Ross, spokesman for CARRT, emphasized the significance of this recognition. “It is only fitting that the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce, San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, and District Attorney Ron Freitas receive an anti-crime award for their collaborative efforts in combating crime. They have effectively identified the problem and are taking innovative measures to reduce theft within their community.”
The award was presented on June 27th during the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce Business Awards and Installation Dinner. This recognition underscores the impactful work being done to combat retail theft and protect the interests of our business community.
Frank Ferral, Chief Policy Officer at the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce, expressed the Chamber's commitment to addressing this critical issue. “The Chamber is responding to a statewide epidemic that has a stranglehold on our members, as well as prospective members. Through our grassroots effort with all the chambers in the county, law enforcement agencies, and our elected officials, we hope to mitigate retail theft through the soon-to-be-launched police reporting app, small business camera grants, business workshops, and an aggressive public awareness program. We will succeed.”
We would like to extend our gratitude to our sponsors who have made this program possible: Weberstown Mall, E3 Security, Less Lethal California, Edgeworth, City of Stockton, F&M Bank, and Food 4 Less Rancho San Miguel.
