Taking Action Against Retail Theft in San Joaquin County

The STAART app allows users to report retail theft incidents in real time. When a submission is made, the report is immediately shared with the affected business, enabling merchants to build a more detailed and accurate account of the incident. These submissions, including eyewitness accounts, descriptions, and other key details, can then be compiled by the business into a comprehensive police report. This process is extremely useful when filing a police report and strengthens the case with reliable, crowd-sourced information.

A key feature of the STAART app is its ability to identify and mitigate retail theft. If the gathered reports indicate that the value of the stolen goods exceeds the threshold for a felony, the case is forwarded directly to the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office for their consideration, hence “Fast STAART” to prosecution. This streamlined process ensures that serious offenders are held accountable, reducing delays and increasing efficiency in the justice system.

The STAART program is made possible through strong partnerships with the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce, San Joaquin County Economic Development Association, San Joaquin County WorkNet, the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, and the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office. Their partnership and support have played a crucial role in launching this initiative and driving its success.

The STAART app is more than just an app—it’s a bridge that empowers residents, businesses, police departments, and the District Attorney’s Office. By fostering collaboration among these groups, STAART is taking significant strides toward reducing retail crime and making San Joaquin County a safer place for everyone.
