Heavy rain and high winds, with gusts up to 50 mph, are in the National Weather Service forecast for Stockton for Wednesday (Jan. 4) and Thursday (Jan. 5), and rain will continue on the weekend. Please be prepared, make a plan, and help family friends and neighbors. Here are some things you can do and what you need to know:
Travel & Safety Tips
- Travel Tips – Local and neighborhood street flooding has subsided. Do not drive, ride, walk or wade through standing water. Travel with caution. Slow down. Watch for lane and street closures. Treat all dark or flashing traffic signals as “all-way stops.” For current information about major road closures, please visit www.stocktonca.gov/storm.
- Report issues in the public right-of-way – Report issues in the public right-of-way, such as fallen limbs and trees, signals, signs, and streetlights to the City of Stockton Municipal Service Center at www.stocktonca.gov/AskStockton or by calling (209) 937-8341. For emergencies, call 9-1-1.
- Preparedness Tips – Preparedness tips are available on the City of Stockton website. Links to other resources, such as Ready.gov, have resources, such as checklists, to help you and your family prepare.
Prepare for Rain/Winds
- City Parks Closed – All City of Stockton parks are closed, due to tree hazards. Please do not access, pass through, or walk near City parks until the storm has passed, clean-up is completed, and the City has notified the community that the temporary closure is over.
- Power Outages – Power has been restored to most areas. Report Power Outages or check the status of power in your neighborhood at Pacific, Gas and Electric – Storms, Outages & Safety – or call 1-800-PGE-5000.
- Help Clear Fallen Leaves & Debris – Please help your neighborhood by clearing leaves, branches, and storm debris away from storm drains near your home. Place yard waste, leaves, and organic debris in your organics waste cart.

- Sandbags – Free self-service, sandbags are available for Stockton residents at two locations. Supplies are going fast. Watch the website above for status.
- Warming Zones – Those without power, heat or shelter are welcome at any of the four (4) City of Stockton community centers. Face coverings, which will be provided at the door, are mandatory. All those staying must confirm that they are free of all COVID-19 symptoms by reviewing and completing a checklist.
- Community Centers – Visit our Community Center Warming Zone locations or public libraries for warming or to charge cell phones during regular business hours.
Evacuations
There are currently no evacuations anticipated in this area. Should massive flooding occur from bodies of water and evacuations be necessary, City and County Police and Sheriffs would make in-neighborhood notifications. The City and County would issue notifications through all available channels of communication, including media, social media, websites, etc., and the emergency broadcast system, which includes television, radio, and cell phone alerts.
