A Message from Chamber President Dennis Goldstrand:

Year as president has

been one to cherish

June 2009  - As I write my final article for the Port-O-Call as your president, I reflect on my year. I will remain involved with the Chamber, especially since the Immediate Past President serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. I will also continue as Co-Chair of the Government Relations Council with my long-term Co-Chair and friend, Dan Schroeder.

I congratulate and welcome Rick Goucher as our new president. He, along with the board and staff, have my full support. Rick has always demonstrated total commitment and dedication in the roles he has served; not just the Chamber but in the community such as United Way . He will serve us well as our president.

My Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Committee Chairs and committee members cannot be thanked enough. It certainly made it easier for me having talented and effective people in these positions. They are not only highly professional but some of the finest individuals that I have known. Thank you also to all the Chamber members for your support and kind remarks throughout the year.

All of this is supported by an incredible staff at the Chamber office. They are truly dedicated and committed to the advancement of the goals and purpose of the Chamber, and perform every day with a positive attitude. They are lead by our CEO , Doug Wilhoit. Any president is very fortunate to have his leadership, stellar reputation and friendship. As valuable as he was to me during my year, it is the friendship that I developed with him and Joan that is the most meaningful to me. My deep appreciation is extended to Doug and Joan and the entire staff.

Since we are addressing staff, I wish to thank my long-time assistant, Julie Turner, for her extra effort and understanding during a year of many more telephone calls, emails and meetings. She was always there for me and made it possible for me to serve as president.

And now, for the most important person in my life, my wife Judy. As we approach our 20th year of marriage, she has always been my greatest supporter and “cheerleader”. Whenever I have considered serving in any capacity in my industry, business or the community, she has given me total support and encouragement and always been there by my side. At the end of the day, I relish being able to return home to her, my “oasis”. What we live for is the love of our family, and for me, the love of Judy is my life. I am so thankful to have her as my life partner and welcome having more time with her. Thank you my dearest Judy.

It was truly an honor to serve as your president. It was an exciting and enjoyable experience. One that I will cherish forever.
