Evergreen welcomes new associate

James Rightmire, a certified clinical hypnotherapist registered with the National Guild of Hypnotists, and a member of the Central Valley Chapter of NGH, has recently joined the Evergreen Professional Hypnotherapy team in Stockton .

He is expanding his career as a stage hypnotist and mentalist (performing as James Knight at the Silver Legacy and El Dorado in Reno , NV ) to include clinical application as a hypnotherapist.

Bank of Agriculture & Commerce welcomes assistant vice president and human resource manager

Bank of Agriculture & Commerce is proud to announce that Peggy Nemee has joined the Bank as Assistant Vice President and Human Resource Manager. Peggy’s responsibilities consist of coordinating all human resource activities including recruitment, compensation, labor relations, benefits and training.  Peggy comes to the BAC with more than 20 years experience in the banking industry.

Peggy obtained her degree in Business Administration, from Humphrey’s College in Stockton and is a member of San Joaquin HR Association and Society for HR Management.

San Joaquin RTD’s General Manager/ CEO Named Transportation Manager of the Year

The California Association for Coordinated Transportation (CalACT) awarded Donna DeMartino, General Manager/ CEO of San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD), the Transportation Manager of the Year Award at its 25th Anniversary Spring Conference,. CalACT gives this prestigious award to a transportation manager for his/her outstanding leadership, achievements, and contributions to the public and the industry. DeMartino was nominated and selected by her peers in the public transportation industry. In 2007, RTD received the Outstanding Transportation Agency Award from CalACT.

Durst Contract Interiors announces new Rep.

Durst Contract Interiors is happy to introduce our newest representative Rob E. Smith. A transplant from the state of Oregon , Rob is located in Modesto and will be working in Stanislaus County and the surrounding areas. He brings with him over 20 years of experience with the contract office furniture industry. Rob stated “I am excited to be serving and assisting businesses in their plans for start-up projects, expansion, reconfiguration, and remodeling.”

SASS! Public Relations expands staff

Carrie Sass, owner of SASS! Public Relations is pleased to announce the promotion of Anna Sass to Event Director and the addition of Mari Tripp, Graphic Artist, to their staff.

Associate Anna Sass has been promoted the position of Event Director, with a special focus on The Record’s Literacy and Book Fair – Family Day at the Park.  In addition to her new responsibilities, Anna will continue as Business Manager. 

Mari Tripp has joined the staff as Graphic Designer.  She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art Studio with an emphasis in Graphic Design from University of California , Santa Barbara . She is responsible for all creative services including identity and branding, custom invitations, marketing collateral and advertisement.

Hospice of San Joaquin Butterfly Auxiliary President honored by Insurance Industry

The Rough Notes Company — A national insurance industry organization— has selected Barbara Galgiani for the 10th Annual Community Service Award.

Barbara Galgiani is President of Capax Marine Providers wholly owned subsidiary of Capax – Giddings, Corby , and Hynes.  Galgiani’s success is not only limited to her business. She is also a charter member of the successful Hospice of San Joaquin’s Butterfly Auxiliary were she served as the first President in 2001 and her dedication shined again when she was elected 2009 president for the Stockton Chapter.

The Community Service Award recognizes the honoree for her commitment and grants $5,000 to the charity served by the recipient. “Instead of awarding agents for the businesses they write, we want to awards the agents and businesses for what they put back into the community.” stated Robert Kretzmer, Executive Director, Community Service Award, The Rough Notes Company.

Lars P. Willerup Named  long term care leader by local New York life office

Lars P. Willerup, a life insurance agent for New York Life Insurance Company’s Stockton G.O. has been named long term care leader for exceptional sales performance.

Mr. Willerup has been a New York Life agent since 2004, and is associated with New York Life’s Stockton General Office in California .

He is a past recipient of the Million Dollar Roundtable and New York Life’s Annuity Champion program in 2008. 

Stockton Symphony director wins award

Peter Jaffe in his fourteenth season as music director of the Stockton Symphony has been selected as the 2009 recipient of the THE CURTAIN GOES UP AWARD presented annually by the Stockton Opera Guild to an outstanding supporter of opera in the community.   The November event will be held at Brookside Country Club and is the kickoff  party for the 2009-2010 opera year.

Surtec claims environmental awards

PG&E recently selected and awarded their “Climate Smart Award” to Surtec, Inc. as the first company in Tracy and south San Joaquin County to achieve carbon neutral status. The program recognizes local businesses for their carbon neutral status.

Surtec  is also 1st inaugural recipient of the “Easy Being Green” Award, selected by the Stockton Thunder Hockey Organization in conjunction with the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce’s Green Team San Joaquin.

Plymouth Square receives award

For the second time in a row, Plymouth Square Retirement Community has received a 5-star rating from Medicare and Medi-cal Services, the only Skilled Nursing community in San Joaquin County to receive this designation.  Only the top 10 percent of skilled nursing communities in the country receive this designation.

Thunder captures ECHL's attendance title again

The Stockton Thunder finished the 2008-09 regular season as the ECHL's leader in attendance for the fourth consecutive season, drawing 223,854 fans at Stockton Arena and averaging 6,218 fans per game.

The Thunder is the first team in the ECHL to lead the league in attendance for four straight seasons since the Florida Everblades accomplished the feat for five straight years (2000-05). It is also the fourth straight year the Thunder surpassed the mark of 220,000 fans for one season.

The San Joaquin County Historical Museum to participate in conservation assessment program

Heritage Preservation is pleased to announce that the San Joaquin County Historical Museum , operated by the San Joaquin County Historical Society in Micke Grove Regional Park near Lodi , has been chosen to participate in the 2009 Conservation Assessment Program ( CAP ). CAP assists museums by providing professional collections conservation and historic building preservation specialists to recommend ways to improve the care of historic artifacts and buildings.

Seeking mascots and food vendors for 19th Annual Literacy & Book Fair – Family Day at the Park

The Record’s Literacy and Book Fair - Family Day at the Park will be held Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 9:30 to 4:00 at University Park in Stockton and we want MASCOTS.  If you have a mascot for your school, business or restaurant we would love to have you participate at the event and in the parade led by the Ceasar Chavez Drum Corp.  In its twelfth year, Family Day at the Park is FREE to the public.  The Record’s signature event, Family Day at the Park provides a full-day of fun and educational activities for the entire community.

Exhibition at San Joaquin County Historical Museum set through August 16.

 “Sing Me Your Story, Dance Me Home: Art and Poetry from Native California” is a multimedia exhibition of more than 40 works by 21 California Native (Indian) visual artists, as well as poems by 10 Native poets.  It will be at the San Joaquin County Historical Museum through August 16, 2009 , Wednesdays through Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The exhibition will be at the Museum in Micke Grove Regional Park , between Stockton and Lodi ( 11793 N. Micke Grove Rd. , Lodi , CA 95240 ). Note: An exhibit noted in last month’s issue from Hispanic Heritage month was from last year and is no longer at the museum.

American Cancer Society hosts I can cope teleconference

The American Cancer Society is offering a free I Can Cope (ICC) teleconference.  The ICC is a series of free, educational, peer support classes and is facilitated by medical professionals. This program is offered every month with the next session on Wednesday, May 6th from 10:00AM - 12:00PM . The topic this month will focus on “Nutrition During and After Cancer Treatment.”

Patients and caregivers can register by calling toll-free 1-800-227-2345 .  This number is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Pre-registration is required so that the Society can mail or e-mail the class materials and dial-in information directly to the patient’s or caregiver’s home or email address.

St. Joseph ’s To Host 20th Annual Cancer Survivors Fashion Show

Planning is in full swing for the grand, 20th anniversary of Surviving Beautifully, the annual fashion show that features cancer survivors “modeling positive attitudes about living after a cancer diagnosis.” The event is at the Stockton Civic Auditorium on Sunday, May 17, at 2:00 p.m.

Tickets are $10 (including children) in advance and $15 day of show. $10 advance tickets may be purchased by sending a check to St. Joseph ’s Foundation, PO Box 213008 , Stockton , CA 95213-9008 . GSEAC announces monthly meeting

“Sing Me Your Story, Dance Me Home: Art and Poetry from Native California” is a multimedia exhibition of more than 40 works by 21 California Native (Indian) visual artists, as well as poems by 10 Native poets.  It will be at the San Joaquin County Historical Museum through August 16, 2009 , Wednesdays through Sundays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.   “Sing Me Your Story, Dance Me Home” recognizes the cultural heritage of the artists and poets, honors their communities, and brings an understanding of California as an indigenous homeland.

The exhibition will be at the Museum in Micke Grove Regional Park , between Stockton and Lodi ( 11793 N. Micke Grove Rd. , Lodi , CA 95240 ).

Ancient Texts & Modern Melodies from the Stockton Chorale

The Stockton Chorale will perform Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez in its last performance of the 2008-09 season.  The Chorale.  Ramirez wrote this piece in 1963 and it is based on South American folk music, specifically the sounds of Argentina .  Misa Criolla has won the unprecedented admiration of the critics and public of Argentina and other South American countries.

The Choral will perform two of John Rutter’s (1945-    ) compositions. The first piece, A Gaelic Blessing, was written as a parting gift for a much-loved choir director and is a popular choice for christenings, weddings and funerals. Requiem the next piece by Rutter was first performed October 1985 in Dallas , Texas .  Requiem starts and ends with the introit and chant from the Tridentine Requiem.  This piece contains many dissonant chords popular in modern choral music. It also includes a soprano solo and words from the 1662 Book of Commen Prayer, burial service.

This double performance will take place on Friday, May 15th, 7:30 pm at the Central United Methodist Church , 3700 Pacific Ave. , Stockton and Sunday, May 17th, 3:00 pm at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1055 S. Lower Sacramento Road , Lodi .

Single concert tickets are $20 for adults, and $10 for students age 17 yrs. and younger. Tickets may be purchased by phoning the Stockton Chorale office at (209) 951-6494 , contacting Chorale members, or at the door.

Annual “take a bite out of aids” To raise money for local aid s agencies

As a kick-off for the AIDS Walk weekend, the Downtown Stockton Alliance and the AIDSWalk of San Joaquin are holding its 2nd annual event, "Take a Bite Out of AIDS” on Thursday, May 7, at several local restaurants throughout the Stockton area.  A portion of the diner’s purchase will be donated to supplement the AIDS Walk San Joaquin’s fundraising activities.  Among the restaurants participating are Misaki’s Sushi, Red Brick Pizza (near the City Centre Cinema), Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill, and Elephant Bar Restaurant (on Pacific Avenue ).  Also, Kinder’s Meats-Deli-BBQ on the Miracle Mile will donate a portion of their weekend proceeds to AIDS Walk San Joaquin. Stockton Women’s Network events set

James Dean takes audiences ‘East of Eden’ in may 15 film classic at Bob Hope Theatre

“East of Eden,” the legendary film that turned an unknown but incendiary James Dean into a cult figure, will close the current Classic Cinema Series on May 15 at the Bob Hope Theatre in downtown Stockton .

“East of Eden” will screen at 7 p.m. , preceded by a 6:30 p.m. live organ concert, a vintage cartoon and newsreel, and a drawing for door prizes.

Complimentary wine, snacks, bottled water and soft drinks are served in the lobby (donations accepted). All tickets are $8 at the box office, which opens at 6 p.m.

Series Chair Bob Hartzell will announce the titles of the new films for the rest of the year, beginning with Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller “The Man Who Knew Too Much” on June 19.

Sexual harassment and workplace violence training offered 

Sexual Harassment training compliant to State Law AB 1825 is available on Thursday May 14 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM. The Workplace Violence workshop is from 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM.
