University of Phoenix first to Sponsor Green.eduFEBRUARY
2009 -
As part of the Green Team San Joaquin, the University of
Phoenix has become the first University to take advantage of the Team’s
newest program—Green.edu. Green.edu will focus on bringing businesses
together with participating universities to develop curriculum to the
green workforce needed to service our recycling, alternative energy and
environmental businesses. Go
Green Bio on the University of Phoenix We
are pleased to announce that University of Phoenix is among the top ten
colleges and universities that utilize green power, according to the
Environmental Protection Agency. We purchase nearly 47 million kilowatt
hours of green energy annually – the equivalent of powering more than
4,000 average American homes per year. At
Embracing
this knowledge, we've launched a Go Green initiative designed to help us
fulfill our environmental commitment. With students, faculty members,
employees, alumni and facilities in locations around the world, our
possibilities for creating positive change are endless. Taking
Action Today and Tomorrow The
University has made the commitment to greening its business and education
practices, identifying short-term opportunities while managing to
long-term sustainable strategies. Over the months, the University has: Been
recognized as one of the top ten colleges and universities that utilize
green power. Adopted
an official Environmental Commitment Statement. Conducted
an audit of current environmental practices. Begun
work on reporting our environmental performance based on the
Sustainability Reporting Guidelines developed by the Global Reporting
Initiative. Created
a recognition program honoring staff members for their environmental
contributions. Begun
work on creating paper recycling programs at locations across the country.
Incorporated
a sustainable design approach into the building of our corporate offices.
Environmentally friendly strategies incorporated into our building's
design include high-performance insulated glass to reduce heat gain and
loss, energy-efficient light fixtures, a water-efficient landscape and
more. Invited
staff and faculty members to submit their formal Go Green pledge. Launched
research into the viability and appropriateness of telecommuting for our
work culture. Launched
a comprehensive information-sharing website, Go Green, for faculty
members, staff members and others, which includes features such as
Green@Home Tips, Campaign 2008 (information on each 2008 presidential
candidates' stance on the environment), and a Glossary
of Environmental Terms. Developed
and launched a robust Sustainability 101 web-based training course for all
staff members and faculty members. For
