Career
Jam "JAMS" Once again
[RETURN
TO CHAMBER HOME PAGE]
OCTOBER
2008 -
Astonishingly, more than 500 high school juniors and seniors from
Stockton, Linden and Lodi Unified school districts, jammed the halls at
Heald College during the 4th Annual Career Jam.
On
Friday, August 22, students from local high schools were able to spend
three hours talking to their potential employers and future colleges. The
event was organized by The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce’s
Business Education Alliance and Heald College.
More than 35 local businesses and colleges lined the halls to
include, Stockton Symphony Association, CA National Guard, California
State University Stanislaus and City of Stockton’s Fire and Police
Department to name a few.
Breakout
sessions were held in the second level classrooms with topics regarding
“Careers and personalities”, “How to land a job and keep it” and
“So you want to start a small business.”
The
main focus of this event was to expose students, almost out of high
school, to different options. Some
students may not be college bound and Career Jam gives those students the
opportunity to know what is available in the workforce.
The
Chamber has received positive and encouraging feedback from both students
and the exhibitors that attended this years Career
Jam.
With
each passing year, the Chamber strives to make this event bigger and
better than the last, but this goal cannot be achieved without the
community support.
