SCAP can help fill your workforce

[RETURN TO CHAMBER HOME PAGE]

JULY 2008 - SCAP is taking an innovative approach in working on the mission of getting CalWORK’s clients back into the work force. SCAP is working to educate the businesses in San Joaquin County to recognize the benefits our SCAP clients offer. Effective communication between case managers was key to giving the program a face-lift.

Each day, more organizations are jumping on board through the apprenticeship opportunity, creating more positions for the clients seeking employment. From clients working as cashiers and bailers, to forklift operators and security guards, each has come to the table offering their experience and were successful in finding full-time employment with reputable companies. I would like to share a success story with you demonstrating such an experience.

Jose Cazares came in to interview through SCAP toward the end of April. He came to us with great attitude, coupled with good experience in the warehouse industry, and was ready to go to work. We attempted to place him with a few companies who have interviewed him and liked the candidate, but wasn’t offered the position due to others being a little more experienced.

His drive and ambition to work didn’t fade, and continued to interview where we referred him. In May, a shop helper position presented itself that was promising and Cazares literally jumped at the opportunity to interview.

He proudly stated “I’m ready to go in and do everyone’s job there, I’ve been ready since yesterday”. He demonstrated that same go-getter personality and landed the job.

To date, Cazares has become an asset to the company and is in route to join the Union over time and hard work with Union Planing Mill.

We have many more success stories with clients becoming self-sufficient through SCAP. Just as employers who benefit from the hard work and dedication the clients are able to perform, so are the clients satisfying their personal goals of finding employment.

This is where SCAP is bridging the Gap between the employers and the clients; we anticipate many more going forward into this summer.
