July 1, 2008, drivers in California will be prohibited from using a
handheld wireless telephone while driving. Drivers will be required to use
a Bluetooth device or other hands-free ear bud while driving. Attached is
the official FAQ from the California Highway Patrol and link to the DMV
site on this new cell phone law. Please forward this information to your
teams asap and encourage everyone to start using hands free devices today! Helpful
hints Remember
that safety is the most important call when driving. Keep both hands on
the wheel and your eyes on the road. Many
of the Sprint phones today come with a hands-free accessory in the box. Visit
Sprint to upgrade your old phone to a new Bluetooth enabled handset and
keep a wired ear “bud” handy in case your battery dies on the
Bluetooth. Set
speed dial numbers. Use
your phone's speakerphone and audible GPS Navigation feature when
possible. Suspend
conversations during hazardous driving situations. For
details on Bluetooth accessories offer at Sprint-owned stores only, please
contact your local marketing team. As for clarification on Push
to Talk (PTT) handsets: CHP notes that your PTT handsets MAY continue
to be used BUT will require use with a hands-free ear piece or other
hands-free device. Frequently asked questions:
What if my phone has a push-to-talk feature, can I use that? The CHP's complete FAQ on
